Do you have a pickle for your tree?

No one is sure of the true origin of the Christmas pickle. Did it come from Old World Germany, with its tradition of glass blowing ornaments shaped like pickles? Or perhaps it originated in America, during the Civil War, when a kindly guard gifted a starving imprisoned solder a pickle to eat. And ater the war, that soldier hung a glass pickle in his family tree, as a reminder of the kindly guard.

Whatever its origin, the lucky person to find the Christmas pickle, hidden in the branches of the Christmas tree, will have good luck for the rest of the year. And perhaps an extra present, too. Or so the legend claims.l
